Amazon Plans Major James Bond Relocation to Liverpool

In a groundbreaking move that will redefine James Bond, Amazon Prime Video is reportedly planning to relocate the iconic spy’s next cinematic chapter from London to Liverpool.

Following its $8.45 billion (£6.7 billion) acquisition of MGM Studios in 2022, Amazon now controls the 007 franchise. With longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli stepping back, Amazon is poised to steer the series in bold, new directions — starting with a major location change.

From London to Liverpool

Due to a filming ban expected in Central London next year, producers are scouting alternative locations, with Liverpool emerging as the leading contender. The city’s distinctive skyline, including the Liver Building and Albert Dock, could replace iconic landmarks like Whitehall and Westminster.

While this shift is likely to raise eyebrows among Bond purists, who fear that Amazon’s influence will alter the essence of the franchise, Liverpool is no stranger to Hollywood. The city has already doubled for locations in The Batman, Harry Potter, and Captain America, proving its ability to stand in for major international settings. Insiders suggest that the move is likely logistical rather than narrative, meaning Bond won’t suddenly be from Liverpool, though the city’s landmarks may make a prominent appearance.

Younger Bond and Retro Vibes

Amazon’s reinvention of James Bond may extend beyond location changes. Reports indicate that the next film could serve as a reboot, possibly set in the 1950s or ’60s, with a younger Bond. This would mark a return to the spy’s early days and a new direction for the franchise.

Actor Daniel Mays shared his thoughts on the rumor, saying, “I heard they’re casting someone very young and going back to the origins — retro cars, that sort of vibe. I think that would be kind of cool.”

With a hefty £250 million budget and a target release by 2027, the next installment could breathe new life into the 007 legacy.

Several names have emerged as potential candidates for the next 007. Top contenders include Theo James (The White Lotus), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Josh O’Connor (The Crown), and Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris). But one surprise name is James Nelson-Joyce, a rising star from Liverpool who has reportedly caught the attention of producers. Known for his intense roles, he called the opportunity to play Bond a “privilege.”

Bond Theme – A New Icon?

As always, speculation about the next Bond theme song is heating up. Bookmakers are backing BRIT Award winner Raye at 8/11 odds, while Newcastle rocker Sam Fender is also in the running. There’s even talk that Adele, whose Skyfall theme earned her an Oscar, could return after a decade-long absence.

Beyond the big screen, Amazon is looking to expand the Bond universe. A potential TV spinoff, The Moneypenny Diaries, starring Florence Pugh, is reportedly in early talks. This move signals Amazon’s plans to transform Bond into a broader, interconnected world, much like the strategies used by Marvel and Star Wars.

A New Chapter for 007

The shift from London to Liverpool is just one piece of a larger transformation for Bond. With a younger, retro Bond and an expanded universe, Amazon is poised to usher in a new era for the world’s most famous spy. While traditionalists may resist the change, one thing is clear — Bond’s legacy is being shaken, stirred, and reimagined for the next generation.
